One of the most common problems men and women notice with their appearance is the development of a double chin. Over time, this prominent layer of puffy tissue, below the jawline, can make the face look older and take away from the other, beautiful features. Also referred to as submental fat, the double chin can be the result of weight fluctuations, hormonal changes, and the normal aging process. Unfortunately, genetics can also play a large role in the development of a double chin, meaning that exercise and diet often do little to improve the area.
Both men and women, unhappy with the look of excess submental fat, can find Kybella beneficial. The ideal candidate for Kybella will be over 18, in good health, have a clear understanding of the treatment, and hold realistic expectation for their final results. Kybella is safe for patients of all skin types and ethnicities.
Unfortunately, those patients with an active infection, are pregnant, or have a bleeding disorder may be asked to postpone their Kybella treatment. Patients with scarring or stretched, excess skin under their chin may not be right for Kybella. In this case, Dr. McCann and staff can recommend a more appropriate treatment.
Before beginning a Kybella treatment, a one-on-one consultation will be scheduled to determine if Kybella is an appropriate treatment option for you. At this time, a brief physical examination of the facial anatomy will be performed. The Kybella treatment will be explained in full; and the benefits and limitations will be reviewed. If Kybella is determined to be the right treatment for restoring smooth facial contours, a personalized treatment plan will be designed. At this time the number of Kybella treatment sessions required, and the exact cost, will be determined.
The Kybella treatment is performed by Dr. McCann. During the consultation appointment, the target treatment area will be determined, as well as the number of sessions required for optimal results. Then, once the patient is comfortable, a series of tiny injections will be applied underneath the chin. The procedure may include up to 50 injections, depending on the degree of submental fatty tissue.
Each Kybella session takes less than 30 minutes to perform. Patients generally report mild pinching and pressure during the injections, although an anesthetic may be added for improved patient comfort. A series of two to six Kybella sessions will be required for optimum results. These will be spaced about four weeks apart.
The benefits of Kybella can be seen in as few as one to two treatments; but for maximum benefit, up to six treatments may be recommended. Once the fat cells have begun to dissolve, the chin will slowly become smoother and more sculpted. As the injectable permanently destroys the fat cells in the treatment area, the results from Kybella are long lasting. Patients can enjoy the improvements without any further maintenance treatments.
